Random Friday Post

It's been a while since my last post, so here's a little somethin' off the top of my head. Get ready for a random post :)!

1.) Mary Ellen is FINALLY starting to crawl. She gets up on hands and knees and crawls about two or three steps before going back down to the belly and army crawling. Her army crawl has improved SO MUCH, too! She is much more coordinated, therefore, much faster than she was only weeks ago. She is also clapping. Clapping is her new favorite pastime. All you have to do is yell "YAY!" and she goes to town with the clapping. We are loving it!!

2.) Hattie's birthday is only a few short weeks away, and she has informed me that she wants a rainbow cake. She is super fascinated with and all about rainbows right now. I think I might attempt to make this one. Or if I'm feeling particularly overwhelmed with birthday stuff, we'll go a much simpler route and buy a bunch of tubes of icing and just squirt them across the top of a white sheet cake. Either way, she'll be THRILLED, and it's good to have a back-up plan when reality sets in, but I really do want to attempt that cake!

3.) I am loving all of the creativity that's out there in the blog world. I am blog addicted. Not only did I find the rainbow cake that would make my daughter's birthday dreams come true, but I am just constantly inspired and amazed by all the women I *meet* in the blog world. Take, for instance, this blog. I ran across it a while back, and I just love this woman's style! She is a great photographer, takes beautiful pictures, and she LOVES Jesus, and I am amazed that she just added baby #7 to her beautiful family.

4.)
I think everyone needs a mirror in their playroom. Last week the girls were being cranky buckets while I was trying to make dinner one night, so I pulled a mirror from another part of our house and placed it on the floor in front of them. They played in front of it until dinnertime and have since spent lots of time in front of that mirror admiring themselves, making silly faces, primping for Hattie . . . whatever! So now I am on a mission to find a cheap, old mirror at Goodwill or a garage sale or something to make it a permanent fixture in our playroom.

5.) Speaking of our playroom, notice that ugly toy bin in the above picture. Pardon my opinion if you have said toy bin and love it, but I have hated that thing since about the second day I bought it. All kids who come over, along with my own two, love to just pull all the toys out of it constantly. It's like no child can resist the temptation to just dump the buckets and watch the toys come tumbling down on the floor. So I have been looking for a replacement toy box for sometime - one with no buckets! BUT have you noticed how expensive toy boxes are!?! My goodness! If I'm going to pay that much money for something, I better be able to eat on it, sleep on it, or sit on it comfortably! Anyways, last week I struck gold and made my first Craigslist purchase! I got a Pottery Barn (slightly used) white, beautiful toy box for one-fourth of the original price. Now the old toy box resides in the garage for outside toys. Mission accomplished! Next mission - good sturdy bookcases for about a fourth of the price! I'm on the lookout!

Five points is good enough, huh?!?! :) The girls are still sleeping, so I better take this opportunity to fold a load of laundry that is forever sitting in my dryer! Happy Father's Day to any dads out there who read this - I think there are a few ;).

Wisdom From the Pope

“The inalienable dignity of every human being and the rights which flow from that dignity - in the first place the right to life and the defense of life - are at the heart of the church's message." Pope John Paul ended his address, saying: "In spite of divisions among Christians, 'all those justified by faith through baptism are incorporated into Christ...brothers and sisters in the Lord.'"
